I was born in Des Moines, Iowa in the spring of 1964. My parents moved to Knoxville, Iowa shortly after that, where I spent the remainder of my youth. After graduating high school, I attended Des Moines Area Community College, studying commercial art. I was employed by several design firms and advertising agencies in Des Moines as an art director.

Photography became a passion early in my life, often photographing my younger brother after my mother bought me my first 35 mm camera, a Nikon FA. Becoming more confident, I set up a darkroom in the basement of our family home where I processed film and developed my prints.

The excitement of capturing a beautifully composed image and creating the final print has continued for more than 40 years. Now, my focus lies in large format black and white landscapes and portraits.
